ROCZEN EXTENDS AMA MX POINTS LEAD AT THUNDER VALLEY

ETS Racing Fuels - Round 3 AMA 450

7 June, 2014 - Thunder Valley, Lakewood CO - Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series - 450MX class

For the third week in a row, the ETS-fueled Red Bull KTM Factory team have taken victory in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series, this time Ken Roczen weathered the storm from 2008 champion James Stewart to finish second in Moto 1 then ride away from the 2-time Supercross champion to take the win in Moto 2.

Team-mate Ryan Dungey was the big mover in the opening moto, the two-time champion fourth on lap one, with Roczen further back. Dungey pushed hard in the opening few laps to take positions away from KTM-rider Andrew Short and Josh Grant to be second to James Stewart by lap four. From there he continued to push, catching Stewart in a battle for the lead.

Roczen meanwhile was forced to work his way through the field, the red-plate holder (points leader) moving into third just after the mid-point of the race, before setting out to close in on the battle for the lead.

He quickly caught his team-mate and Stewart, making a move past Dungey for second, but unable to get past Stewart before the flag, ultimately settling for second. Dungey sadly had a fall in the dying stages due to poor visibility and a lack of visor ‘tear-offs’ however he quickly regrouped to finish fourth at the flag.

Dungey had another great start in the second moto to be in a battle for the lead with Trey Canard whilst Roczen was again forced to fight his way through the pack. The young German was quickly onto the tail of his team-mate, ultimately moving past both Dungey and Canard to take the lead and set the fastest lap of the day on his way to his third victory of the 2014 outdoor season and his sixth podium from six starts.

Roczen commented: “I am happy to get another win. My focus is to continue to win motos and keep the red-plate. I had a great second moto race today and feel really good about my results and fitness.”

“I am definitely pushing to improve myself each race. Luckily, Kenny (Roczen) and I have been practicing a lot together which is good for both of us. Today I made a few mistakes and he had a bit more speed than me in some areas but overall I feel good and am excited about this season,” Dungey said afterwards.
