HERLINGS LEADS ETS DOMINATION AT VALKENSWAARD
4 May, 2014 - Valkenswaard, Netherlands - MX2 Results - Race #6 Valkenswaard, Netherlands
Red Bull KTM’s Antonio Cairoli may have claimed his sixth GP of The Netherlands victory at Valkenswaard but his MX2 factory team-mate Jeffrey Herlings wasn’t far behind, claiming two victories across the weekend to take his Dutch tally to five and like Cairoli, leave the sixth round with the points lead.
For ETS Racing Fuels Valkenswaard provided a clean sweep of the podium, and seven riders in the top ten, with Husqvarna’s Romain Febvre, Herlings' KTM factory team-mate Jordi Tixier and KTM’s Valentin Guillod vaulting up the points order.
Febvre was particularly impressive on the Husqvarna factory bike, holding on to second behind Herlings for the bulk of both races before making a minor error on both ocassions just 100 metres from home. In both cases he held on to retain a podium finish, in the process moving to third in series points.
“It was a great weekend. I won my qualifying heat and both motos. I took two okay starts and we went from minus four points to plus 15 in the championship,” Herlings explained. "I know these tracks and to win here for the fifth time is just amazing. We’re back on the red plate and hope to keep it. I’m Looking forward to Spain and hope to get another win there.”
“To get second overall in a really great result,” Febvre admitted post-event. “Both races went really well for me, but as they finished I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to hold second both times. In the first race I was battling with Jordi Tixier for two or three laps and got third, and in the second race I was in the runner-up position for so many laps. But I wasn’t able to hold it to the finish. That was disappointing, but to get second overall is really great. The team really did a great job this weekend, it’s such a good feeling to get the runner-up spot.”
“This is my second podium in a row and its always pretty good to be on the box,” Tixier said. “I had a good start in the first race, my rhythm was good and so was my speed. I got the holeshot in the second moto but then I crashed twice. My handlebars were a bit twisted and I have a little bit of pain in my wrist. I managed to finish fifth. Its not what I expected but I’m quite happy with my weekend.”
