RED BULL KTM STORM AMA SX SEASON PODIUM

Red Bull KTM storm Podium with ETS Racing Fuel

4 May, 2014 - Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada - AMA Monster Energy Supercross - 450SX class

The AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series title may have already been settled in New Jersey, but Red Bull KTM Factory riders Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey had it all to play for at the series finale in Las Vegas, with positions two and three in the series rankings up for grabs.

With just former champion James Stewart standing between them and the podium, the two ETS fueled riders knew they had to be on their A-game, although Stewart too was threatening, setting the early pace at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Dungey was able to progress straight into the main event by placing third in the opening heat, but team-mate Roczen - the reigning AMA 250 West Supercross champion - was forced to come through the semis after finishing outside the top four in his heat race.

Roczen recovered to win the semi-final with ease and progress into the main event alongside his team-mate and the hard-charging Stewart.

Off the line in the final, both KTM riders charged, to be quickly through to the top four and well ahead of Stewart. On the second lap, both riders were able to pass Jake Weimer to move up one position. Dungey made his pass after tripling past Weimer in a rhythm section while Roczen passed him through the whoops. Once in podium position, both riders held their position and finished the race comfortably clear of Justin Barcia in fourth place.

In the end they crossed the line to claim not just second and third in the final round, but second and third in the championship standings after a tough year which saw them share three wins (Dungey one, Roczen two) and 18 podiums.

“I was hoping for a win in Vegas”, remarked Dungey. “I am happy to be on the podium but was really hoping to be closer to a win tonight. Now we will go back to California to test for two weeks before outdoors start. I am pumped to finish 2nd overall in the series points and hope to make it one spot better next season.”
“Today was good preparation for outdoors because it was very warm and challenging”, stated Roczen.

Now the team’s focus turns to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship which kicks off with the Glen Helen Nationals in California on May 24.
