IMPORTER & DISTRIBUTOR OF
ROCZEN AND DUNGEY ON TOP AGAIN AT HANGTOWN
31 May, 2014 - Hangtown Motocross Classic, Sacramento CA - Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series - 450MX class
After a strong start to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series at the iconic Glen Helen venue just a week prior, the ETS-fueled Red Bull KTM Factory team dominated the second round of the season at Hangtown, although this time it was rising star Ken Roczen who upset two-time 450 class champion Ryan Dungey to lead home another emphatic KTM 1-2.
Quick again during the qualifiers, the two Red Bull KTM riders were expected to set the pace at Sacramento, but whilst Dungey got the holeshot in Moto 1, it was Roczen who was the big mover, the young German through on his team-leader before the conclusion of the opening lap, the former AMA Western Regional 250SX champion then going on to take the win by more than eight seconds over Dungey.
“I felt really good in the first moto”, stated Roczen. “I had a great start and was able to put together a solid moto. Riding mistake-free was key and I was able to do that to take my first win.”
Both riders launched off the line to start Moto 2 strongly, although they were only fourth and fifth into turn one.
Approximately ten minutes into the moto, Roczen began to pressure Justin Barcia and Brett Metcalfe for the front two spots. Roczen quickly moved around Barcia on a downhill section into a right-hand corner to take second place. He then began to reel in Metcalfe and made the pass stick about half a lap later. Once in the lead he never looked back and went on to take his second win of the day for a complete two-moto sweep.
Dungey followed in Roczen’s footsteps and made the critical passes on both Barcia and Metcalfe shortly after Roczen moved into the lead. He then began to trail his teammate for the rest of the moto but was unable to close the gap on Roczen. He rode a consistent pace to finish second in the moto and second overall for the day.
