IMPORTER & DISTRIBUTOR OF
DOMINANT WEEKEND FOR ETS IN WSBK AND MXGP
11 May, 2014 - Imola, Italy - World Superbike Championship
MXGP of Spain - Talavera de la Reina, Spain
May 11 was a memorable day for ETS Racing Fuels, with both their World Superbike and MXGP teams dominating their respective championships to claim seven wins across four classes; WSBK, WSSP, MXGP and MX2.
In Imola for the fourth round of the FIM World Superbike Championships, Team Pata Honda rider Jonathon Rea dominated proceedings to take two clear victories on the popular Italian circuit and leap into the lead of the championship heading into round five at Donington in the UK.
Meanwhile, on the same weekend across in Spain, fellow ETS-fueled rider Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle led every lap of both MXGP of Spain races to claim his first victory at Talavera de la Raine and his first perfect score of the season.
It wasn’t just the elite classes either where ETS figured in the results, World Supersport rider Lorenzo Zanetti continued the winning streak for the Pata Honda team to take the win at Imola, whilst in MX2 in Spain, reigning world champion - Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings - won two from two to make it seven wins from seven starts for ETS Racing Fuels across a memorable weekend.
Having won the second race at Assen to move within reach of reigning world champion Tom Sykes heading to Imola, Rea proved unbeatable, setting pole position, comfortably winning both 19-lap races, setting the fastest lap in both races to complete his total domination of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit.
“It’s been a great weekend for me!,” Rea admitted. “I couldn’t have imagined doubling up coming here. But I knew we’d be strong because it’s a circuit I really enjoy and one that the bike goes really well at.”Whilst Rea won the double, his World Supersport Pata Honda team-mate Lorenzo Zanetti took his maiden victory in World Supersport after former champion Kenan Sofuoglu retired from the lead with four laps to go after intense pressure from the Pata Honda rider from the opening lap.
In Spain, the MXGP circus was at Talavera de la Reina where seven-time FIM World Motocross Champion Antonio Caroli was looking to extend his championship points lead, however Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle had other ideas, the Belgian - like fellow ETS fueled rider Jonathon Rea - was intent on dominating the MXGP of Spain, in the end leading every lap to claim maximum points and move into second position in the championship heading to the MXGP of Great Britain.
“I wanted to do the best I could today and I’m quite surprised!” Desalle explained after admitting pre-race to a stomach problem. “My feeling on the bike was much better; really good. It was so nice to get two moto wins like I did. It is good for the confidence and the championship. I was really happy about my riding and I enjoyed myself out there. The track was technical and when it is like this - that you need to find a good line to go fast - I like it a lot.”
